NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

Compassionate - Enduring - Connections​

Elk Meadow Enduring Connections, Inc. (Elk) is a fully inclusive treatment agency, welcoming all individuals to enter into treatment. Elk has a strong

non-discrimination policy, emphasizing equal access and equitable

treatment for all individuals seeking behavioral health services. 

Elk aims to provide equitable access to comprehensive, effective, and culturally responsive care for all, including those with diverse needs,

abilities, and backgrounds. Elk is committed to holding itself

accountable for promoting equity within the behavioral

health system and taking action to dismantle systemic barriers. 

Individuals who believe they have experienced

discrimination or retaliation can file a complaint with

Elk and/or the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration (BHA).  

Elk has a process for handling complaints of discrimination,

retaliation, and other grievances

 

At Elk, clients will not be discriminated against for any reason including:

  • Race and/or ethnicity

  • English not being their first language

  • Sexual orientation

  • Gender identity

  • Pregnancy status

  • Active substance use including alcohol and/or cannabis

  • Co-occurring disorders

  • Use of prescribed medications including the use of MAT medications

  • Hearing impairments including deafness

  • Vision impairments

  • HIV status or AIDS diagnosis

  • Suicidal ideation

  • Disabilities including physical and/or intellectual limitations

  • Military or veteran status

  • Low socioeconomic status

  • Housing status (unhoused, sober living, transitional living, etc.)

  • Employment status

  • Legal charges or status (probation, parole, re-entry, DUI)

  • Religious and/or spiritual beliefs

 

Clients who present with with physical, psychological or emotional impairments will not be discriminated against or denied treatment; however, we may have to refer the client if we have staffing/resource limitations that hinder us from providing equitable services that they have the right to receive.  In most cases, our Resource Navigator will assist with a warm hand-off to a qualified and available resource.

Clients who present aggressively may be denied treatment if they pose a risk to the safety of staff or clients.  Gang colors, language and posturing may be considered a threat to the safety of staff and clients.
